This position is for an in-house attorney in An American Multinational Financial Services Corporation's Legal and Ethics & Compliance group who will be a member of the legal team that supports Global Clients and Global Deals teams. In an increasingly competitive and diversifying payments ecosystem, these teams are critical to supporting An American Multinational Financial Services Corporation's strategic initiatives. As a member of this team, you'll provide thoughtful and pragmatic legal guidance to key teams at An American Multinational Financial Services Corporation to facilitate global commercial agreements and relationships with An American Multinational Financial Services Corporation's most important clients. We are looking for an organized, self-motivated individual who can work collaboratively to support An American Multinational Financial Services Corporation's commercial goals in a complex, global environment.

The Global Deals Legal team provides cross-functional and cross-regional support to An American Multinational Financial Services Corporation's global clients. The team works closely with its regional counterparts around the world.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Drafting and negotiating complex business transactions, including incentive, brand and strategic alliance agreements with traditional payment system participants like issuers, merchants, processors, and new payment system participants such as fintechs, neobanks and crypto wallets
  • Extensive business dealings with An American Multinational Financial Services Corporation's external client base including financial institutions, processors, merchants, and fintechs
  • Drafting, updating, and managing template agreements to allow for more efficient contract administration process
  • Providing legal support to An American Multinational Financial Services Corporation's account executives responsible for managing global client relationships, and
  • Working closely with regional attorneys and internal subject matter experts and regional attorneys

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
  • 5 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD
  • A member in good standing in of, and eligible to practice law in, at least one jurisdiction in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 6 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 4 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or up to 3 years of relevant experience with a PhD
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse team to build effective working relationships with internal clients at all levels
  • Strong people skills and experience with cross-functional and/or cross-regional teams
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills, including the ability to translate complex legal concepts into business-oriented advice
  • Experience drafting and negotiating and/or litigating complex commercial transactions
  • Self-starter who can work independently, effectively, and collegially on a small legal team
  • Ability to successfully prioritize and oversee a large number of matters
  • Developed business acumen, with the ability to understand the company's business interests and anticipate the nature and magnitude of issues that could arise in a fast-paced environment
  • Background and knowledge of some or all of the following is preferred: the payment services industry and related credit and debit processing industries, the legal and regulatory landscape governing, in particular, credit and debit cards, intellectual property law, or antitrust and competition law
  • Practical and proactive problem-solver, calm under pressure with a positive attitude and a sense of humor

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
