The Prince George's County State's Attorney's Office announces multiple job openings for Senior and Supervisory Assistant State's Attorneys in the following units: Special Victims (Assistant Chief), Grand Jury (Chief), and Homicide (Senior). Senior and Supervisory ASA's will have the opportunity to lead prosecution of some of the most challenging cases, working with best attorneys of any office in the State. This Office consistently produces leaders in the legal field.

Job Description: Assistant State's Attorneys (ASA) are classified within the Prince George's County personnel system as exempt, at-will employees who serve at the pleasure of the State's Attorney.

Senior ASA's and Assistant Unit Chiefs are classified as grade SA04 depending upon prior legal, trial, and professional experience. The SA04 Senior ASA is a non-supervisory positions. The SA04 Assistant Unit Chief is a supervisory position.

Unit Chief's are classified as grade SA05 and are supervisory positions.

SalaryIndividual salaries are set based on budget and experience, within the minimum and maximum salary scales of:
SA04 $104,670.00 - $166,347.00
SA05 $113,260.00 - $179,660.00

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have graduated from an accredited law school, be licensed to practice law in the State of Maryland, and in good standing. SA04 Candidates must have three (3) years of experience, including one (1) year of experience at the Assistant State's Attorney SA03 level. SA05 Candidates Five (5) years of experience, including one (1) year of experience at the Assistant State's Attorney SA04 level.

Additional Conditions of Employment: Candidates must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting.

General Job Duties: (1) First-Chair jury trials of complex felony cases; (2) Ability to handle a high volume of cases; (3) Ability to guide and mentor junior ASA's; (4) Assistant Unit Chief must be able to supervise attorneys, manage dockets, and delegate assignments; (5) Unit Chiefs must be skilled managers able to handle all aspects of their unit from case initiation to appeal, personnel matters, and general ASA supervision.
