Responsibilities:
The Senior Assistant General Counsel – Workers' Compensation must have substantial experience advising healthcare providers on workers' compensation risk and workplace safety issues. This attorney is the primary contact for hospital operators dealing with alleged workplace injuries, workers' compensation claims or subpoenas, and workplace safety training, policies, plans, and protocols. This attorney must take a lead role in managing and reducing claims against Prime's hospitals, as well as developing and providing education materials and training presentations to improve workplace safety and prevent future claims. This attorney will work closely with the Legal Department's employment and labor counsel and general liability litigation teams to manage claims as they move from pre-litigation to active litigation, and to implement process improvement after litigation has resolved. This attorney must actively manage, supervise and coordinate with outside counsel and Prime Healthcare's Third-Party Administrator (“TPA”) in their assigned areas, direct strategy, and contain costs. This attorney must also mentor/supervise other members of the Workers' Compensation team in the Legal Department, inclusive of attorneys and staff.

Required Qualifications:
  • J.D. from Aba Accredited Law School
  • Member in Good Standing of State Bar of California or Other State in Which Prime Healthcare Operates.
  • Minimum of Ten (10) Years of Prior Legal Experience in Law Firm, Public Sector, And/or in House Position.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • At Least Two (2) Years' Experience with Prime Healthcare's Legal Department.
  • Significant Experience with Hospital or Healthcare Risk Management and Exposure Control Preferred.
  • Prior Experience Interacting with Osha and Other Workplace Safety Regulatory Bodies Preferred.
  • Prior Litigation Experience Strongly Preferred.
