Job Duties:The responsibilities for this position include supervising and administering the day-to-day operation of the Insurance and Utilities Regulatory Section consisting of three attorneys and two support staff. The Insurance and Utilities Regulatory Section serves the Office's statutory Division of Consumer Counsel function representing the interests of the people of Virginia as consumers in proceedings before the Virginia State Corporation Commission, including appeals to the Supreme Court of Virginia, legislative matters before Virginia General Assembly, and in federal administrative matters at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and stakeholder activities at the PJM Interconnection regional transmission organization. The successful candidate will act as lead litigation attorney on matters involving primarily electric, natural gas, and water utilities. The position also includes some regulatory work with insurance companies and the SCC's Bureau of Insurance. Duties will also include advice and assistance to the Attorney General on various matters related to the regulation of these industries. This position reports directly to the Deputy Attorney General for the Civil Litigation Division.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must have the demonstrated ability to analyze and manage complex cases and to lead a professional team of attorneys in complex legal disciplines.
- The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant litigation experience with a background in accounting, economics, finance, and/or engineering.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.
- All applicants must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar.
