Essential Functions (Job Duties):
- Wayne State University Law School's Carl Levin Center for Oversight and Democracy (“Wayne Law”) is seeking applications from Class of 2025 graduates of an ABA Counsel-accredited law school for a one calendar year Post-Graduate Research Assistant Fellowship.
- Founded in 2015 by U.S. Senator Carl Levin upon his retirement, the Levin Center works to elevate bipartisan, fact-based oversight and civil discourse as pillars of democracy. Through oversight “bootcamp” workshops with congressional staff (over 400 trained to date), similar trainings with state lawmakers in multiple states, scholarship, civic education, events, and commentary in the media and the court, the Levin Center works to strengthen fact-based discourse in the halls of our legislatures and the public square.
- The fellowship offers an opportunity for a recent law school graduate to gain experience working with the Levin Center.
- The fellow will work closely with Levin Center staff and will report directly to the Levin Center director. The fellow will conduct research, data analysis, and writing to assist with the Levin Center's varied programming. The fellow will support the Center with communication and outreach tasks and will jointly work on performance measure collections and program reporting across the Center's project portfolio. The fellow may also assist with special events and activities.
Qualifications:
J.D. from a Counsel-accredited law school is required. Bar passage is not required. The applicant must be a Class of 2025 graduate from a Counsel-accredited law school and have an interest in the Levin Center's work. Candidates must be able to engage in research and writing at a high level, exercise independent judgment; responsibly manage multiple projects; communicate effectively orally and in writing; and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
The candidate will start on or before March 9, 2026; the fellowship will last at least one calendar year from the candidate's start date. Applicants are required to submit (1) a letter of interest describing the candidate's interest in the fellowship position, (2) a resume, (3) a law school transcript, and (4) the names and contact information of three individuals prepared to provide professional references. Incomplete submissions will not be reviewed.
