A Mission-Driven Medical Group's Compliance Department is currently seeking individuals to join its team as a Regulatory Attorney and Compliance Manager. These individuals will be responsible for supporting the company's compliance operations and expansion plans. The Regulatory Attorney and Compliance Manager will report to the Senior Counsel and work closely with the Legal and Compliance Departments to ensure that A Mission-Driven Medical Group is compliant with all regulatory requirements and industry standards

Shift Structure:
  • This position is a salaried remote position, typically M-F approximately 40 - 50 hours per week
  • A Mission-Driven Medical Group can be somewhat flexible regarding day-time hours, however regular work scheduled between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. is preferred

Responsibilities:
  • Drafts, reviews and recommends approval of organizational policies and procedures, bylaws, resolutions, handbooks, minutes and other documents related to governance, regulatory compliance and business operations of the organization.
  • Audits the organization's practices to identify any potential areas of non-compliance. Will be responsible for monitoring practices, conducting regular audits against organizational policies and procedures, document reviews and research of relevant compliance, regulatory and billing standards. Specific activities may include audits and analysis of medical director logs, billing practices, HIPAA security and practices, AKS, False Claims Act, Stark, etc.
  • Performs compliance investigations. Will be responsible for witness interviews, document reviews and research of relevant compliance, regulatory and billing standards. Provides written recommendations and summaries.
  • Collaborates with external auditors and regulatory agencies to ensure that the organization is meeting all requirements.
  • Ensures maintenance of accurate and detailed records of all compliance-related activities.
  • Recommends and implements corrective actions when necessary.
  • Responsible for educating and training staff in applicable laws and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Helps ensure that the institution remains in compliance with appropriate state and federal regulatory laws and requirements, and systems. Specific subject matter may involve patient health information, advanced practice practitioners collaboration agreement requirements, healthcare employee background screenings, long-term care medical director requirements, etc.
  • Assists the Legal Department in providing oversight for completing and filing various reports for federal and/or state regulatory agencies. Provides legal and compliance advice, and guidance to officers, administrators, chief physicians and departmental leaders on legal matters relevant to the organization.
  • Serves on committees designated by General Counsel and Senior Counsel
  • Stays abreast of compliance activities in the post-acute care space including: State regulations and survey requirements for post-acute facilities, billing rules and regulations specifically relating to Medicare/Medicaid and third-party payors, HIPAA, and other laws and regulations governing the medical practice in Skilled Nursing, Nursing, Long-Term Care and Assisted Living facilities.
  • Monitors and helps ensure compliance with requirements of the Medicare Shared Savings Program, including Accountable Care Organization regulations and guidance.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift or move 20 lbs.
  • Continuous operation of app-based programs (monday.com, google suite of docs) and other web or technology-based programs and applications.
  • Effectively communicate with Company clients, partners, vendors, and colleagues.
  • Must be able to type at least 40 wpm and spend extended periods of time in front of a computer screen and utilizing personal computer.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation if needed for filings or documents requiring use of external post office or mailing services.

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Must have at least 3 years (4 or more years preferred) of experience and background in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar in one or more of the following areas: healthcare regulatory compliance, healthcare corporate and transactional matters, physician services, post-acute or long-term care, federal and state medical billing laws, and/or substantively similar experience.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Experience managing or otherwise familiar with 3rd party payors (insurance providers and the like)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience with compliance program development, auditing, and training.
  • Must have employment law experience and/or healthcare experience
  • In-house experience with commercial contracting in the healthcare industries strongly preferred.
  • Must be extremely organized and detail oriented
  • Must be comfortable working on one's own and with little direction or supervision
  • Juris Doctor required
  • Must have an active bar license and be in good standing with the applicable state. Licensed in Michigan, North Carolina, or Ohio preferred
