Responsibilities and practice:
The Des Moines, Iowa office of Dentons Davis Brown is seeking a Part-Time Attorney with excellent academic credentials to join our Real Estate Department. The person hired for this position will:
  • Review abstracts of title, title commitments, title certificates, and title reports.
  • Prepare and issue title opinions and field-issue Iowa Title Guaranty commitments and certificates in accordance with applicable state laws and underwriting standards.
  • Analyze and resolve title defects.
  • Provide recommendations for title curative actions.
  • Review deeds, mortgages, affidavits, releases, and related real estate documents.
  • Communicate with title companies, lenders, surveyors, and other parties as necessary.
  • Support residential, commercial, and agricultural real estate transactions.
  • Conduct legal research related to real property and title matters.
  • Maintain accuracy and quality while managing multiple files and deadlines.
  • Handle real estate closings and miscellaneous real estate-related work, as needed.

Position Requirements:
Personal skills/attributes:
  • Active license to practice law in the state of Iowa.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in title examination.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing title opinions and conducting title review.
  • Strong understanding of real property law, conveyancing, and title standards.
  • Ability to identify title issues and recommend practical solutions.

Technical skills:
  • Exceptional attention to detail and legal writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Experience working with lenders and real estate professionals preferred.

Other Requirements:
Should be licensed to practice law in the State/Commonwealth of Iowa and be in good standing
