Job Summary:
The Real Estate Legal Counsel will serve as a key member of the LCG US Legal Department and provide practical, business-oriented legal advice regarding the real estate aspects of renewable energy project development, construction, financing, acquisition, disposition, and operation. Reporting to the General Counsel, the attorney will work closely with internal business teams, other members of the Legal Department, and outside counsel to identify and manage real estate risks, support project execution, and promote compliance with applicable contractual and legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advice on the real estate aspects of renewable energy project development, construction, operation, acquisition, disposition, and financing.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on the execution and performance of real estate agreements, including leases, easements, access agreements, purchase and sale agreements, rights-of-way, crossing agreements, surface use agreements, road use agreements, and mineral waivers.
  • Review and advise on title, survey, zoning, land-use, and related due diligence matters, and prepare or oversee necessary curative documentation.
  • Advice on title insurance commitments, policies, endorsements, exceptions, claims, and coverage matters.
  • Support tax equity, minority equity, project financing, and other financing transactions with respect to real estate diligence, documentation, conditions precedent, and risk allocation.
  • Support development, construction, asset management, operations, M&A, and finance teams on real estate matters and related procedures.
  • Identify material legal, commercial, and project-execution risks, develop practical mitigation strategies, and promptly escalate significant matters to the General Counsel while coordinating with other responsible members of the LCG US Legal Department.
  • Coordinate with other members of the LCG US Legal Department to support consistent legal positions, appropriate allocation of responsibilities, and efficient matter management.
  • Manage outside counsel efficiently, including establishing scope, monitoring work, reviewing legal advice, and managing fees and budgets.
  • Maintain appropriate real estate legal records and support compliance with material real estate contractual obligations and applicable law.
  • Conduct legal research and provide clear, practical, and timely advice to internal clients.
  • Perform other legal responsibilities and projects as assigned by the General Counsel.

Qualifications:
  • Must be eligible to work for any U.S. employer without the need for sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. state. Admission in Texas, or eligibility to practice as in-house counsel in the applicable work jurisdiction, is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant legal experience, including substantial experience negotiating, reviewing, preparing, and drafting real estate, title, and survey-related documents and agreements.
  • Experience advising on real estate matters relating to renewable energy or other energy and infrastructure projects is strongly preferred.
  • Strong title, survey, and real estate due diligence experience.
  • Experience with the real estate aspects of project finance, non-recourse debt, and tax equity investments.
  • Ability to provide practical, risk-based, and business-oriented legal advice on complex matters.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines with appropriate prioritization and escalation.
  • Strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to advise business leaders and other stakeholders on complex legal matters.
  • Demonstrated accountability, sound judgment, strong decision-making abilities, and careful handling of confidential information.
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, information-gathering, and information-monitoring skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively while maintaining clear ownership and accountability.
  • Ability to communicate complex real estate risks clearly to legal and non-legal stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage outside counsel efficiently and use external legal resources selectively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant legal and document-management technology, together with a commitment to the effective use of legal technology and AI-enabled tools consistent with company requirements and confidentiality obligations.
