Position Overview:
We are seeking a Real Estate Attorney with experience handling residential real estate transactions in New York. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing files from contract through closing. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with clients, lenders, real estate agents, and internal staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage residential real estate transactions from contract execution to closing
- Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, riders, closing documents, and settlement statements
- Conduct due diligence, including title review, payoff and lien verification, and issue resolution
- Coordinate with clients, brokers, lenders, and opposing counsel to ensure a smooth transaction process
- Attend closings (in person or virtually) and ensure all documentation is complete and accurate
- Advise clients on legal rights, obligations, and potential risks during each phase of the transaction
- Maintain accurate case files and update case management systems (e.g., Clio)
- Ensure all transactions comply with New York real estate laws and regulations
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active New York Bar admission in good standing
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in residential real estate law (commercial experience is a plus)
- Strong understanding of New York property law, contracts, and closing procedures
- Excellent communication, drafting, and negotiation skills
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple transactions in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case management software
- Experience with NYC co-op and condo transactions
- Familiarity with lender requirements, title insurance processes, and survey review
- Ability to identify and resolve complex title or closing issues
