Description:

A Government Entity is seeking a staff attorney for its Immigration Legal Assistance Project (ILAP) clinic, which has been providing legal services to immigrant families of Los Angeles in the Federal Building for over thirty years. ILAP provides individuals with immigration information, advice, advocacy with USCIS, and help preparing forms through its walk-in clinic. ILAP services are provided through a team of staff, volunteer attorneys, law students, and other community members working one-on-one with applicants.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manages the daily operations of the clinic, including developing and implementing policies and programs.
  • Prepares documents, answers legal and procedural questions, reviews and approves documents drafted by volunteers and staff.
  • Coordinates, trains, and supervises volunteers. Creates training materials.
  • Develops informational materials for self-represented applicants.
  • Performs legal research; reviews and analyzes legislation, case law and statutes.
  • Participates on various committees, task forces, and commissions as assigned to promote access to justice in the immigration context.

Qualifications:
  • J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Active member in good standing with the California Bar.
  • Two to three years' experience in immigration law.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, organization, and problem solving.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience and sensitivity with people in crisis.
  • Excellent bilingual oral, reading, and writing skills in both English and Spanish.
