To help fuel our rapid growth, we are seeking a full-time Product Safety Counsel to advise on and manage company process and compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and voluntary and mandatory safety standards as they relate to product safety and disclosure.   • Serve as legal counsel when addressing product regulatory and safety issues.
  • Provide guidance on the design and modification of products and marketing materials, to proactively identify and address associated risks and recommend mitigation and compliance strategies.
  • Coordinate between legal, business, and creative internal and external resources to further build, maintain, and advise on product development, launch, distribution, and recall activity to mitigate risks.
  • Monitor, advise on, and train on relevant product liability, age grading, warnings, and product industry standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Review and assist with all new product and existing launches and ensure appropriate steps are taken for compliance efforts with regulations and standards.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to prepare and file documents and reports with government agencies and other authorities as needed.
  • Research, interpret, summarize, monitor, and organize product-related regulatory, industry standard, and voluntary standard compliance issues and policies related to our existing products and new ideas. 
  • Build and maintain a library of relevant product liability standards and procedures.
  • Collaborate with legal and business team members to improve product review and safety processes and ensure business and legal demands are satisfied.

Required Qualifications:
  • Law Degree (J.D. or equivalent) and membership in good standing in CA state bar
  • E-commerce and consumer products experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to learn quickly, and work efficiently and accurately in fast-paced environment
  • Ability to be flexible in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple, detailed tasks
  • Ability to maintain a large portfolio of in-flight projects and tasks
  • Ability to manage projects from start to finish

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5-6 years of relevant legal, regulatory, and industry experience at a leading law firm, government agency, and/or consumer products or marketplace company
  • Experience with US and international consumer product regulations, such as CPSC and FDA
  • The ability to read, understand, interpret, and advise on complex product-related laws, rules, regulations, directives, and industry standards
  • Strong project management skills
  • Regulatory and consumer safety background
  • The ability to adjust to changing circumstances and the willingness to cross-train in other practice areas
