As Product and Marketing Counsel, you will be responsible for handling a wide range of legal issues including but not limited to advising on legal compliance for product launches or legal issues related to user research, copyright and other IP matters, and review of marketing and promotional campaigns and press releases. - Review and advise on marketing content, including digital campaigns, social media, email communications, influencer partnerships, and promotional materials.
- Ensure compliance with consumer protection regulations, advertising law, substantiation, disclosures, endorsements, user-generated content, and industry best practices.
- Partner with marketing, brand, and communications teams to provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide legal guidance on new product features and updates, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including privacy, consumer protection, and IP concerns.
- Partner with Product, Compliance, Data Privacy, Brand, and Engineering to ensure legal considerations are embedded in the planning stages and mitigate risks throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Work with outside counsel to manage the company's intellectual property portfolio and assist in filing new applications.
- Advise on projects as needed, including regulatory, IP, and risk management issues
- A JD from a top law school and membership in the California Bar
- At least 5 years of relevant experience (in-house and/or law firm), ideally with exposure to marketing review, advertising law, or product counseling experience.
- Strong understanding of U.S. advertising and consumer protection laws, privacy principles, and emerging technology issues.
- International experience and experience in intellectual property and/or privacy are a plus.
- Ability to provide quick, concise and practical legal advice consistent with the organization's business objectives.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, act decisively and run projects autonomously.
