General Job Summary
The Principal Attorney, Quiet Title assists the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, and the Chief Counsel, Litigation in oversight of Staff Attorneys assigned to the Quiet Title team. The Principal Attorney, Quiet Title is a goal oriented and results driven professional with the ability to effectively lead a team of colleagues in a fast-paced, demanding environment to meet the organization's title clearance needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage the Quiet Title team and related external vendors, including, but not limited to, outside legal counsel
  • Act as liaison to the Planning & Analysis and Real Estate, Sales & Marketing Departments to ensure accurate understanding of and response to their title needs
  • Build and maintain streamlined quiet title process for quality and volume to meet expanding needs of the organization
  • Build and maintain comprehensive reporting metrics via Salesforce dashboard(s)
  • Work with related external vendors to reduce need for quiet title actions
  • Manage a large and growing docket of quiet title lawsuits
  • Advise and counsel the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, and Chief Counsel, Litigation on matters of law and policy, including, but not limited to, state law, and title insurance industry standards
  • Perform additional duties as directed by the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, and Chief Counsel, Litigation

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  • Juris Doctorate from an American Bar Association-accredited law school
  • Member in good standing of the State Bar of Michigan
  • At least five (5) years' related legal experience (e.g. real estate, title)
  • Experience supervising / managing legal work of others
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in public speaking and writing
  • Excellent analytical, and problem-solving skills, and good judgment to identify potential solutions
  • High legal and ethical standards
  • Experience using and proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience using and proficiency with Salesforce, preferred
  • Discretion in keeping sensitive material confidential
  • Mission-driven individual with high personal integrity and a strong sense of public service to the residents of the City of Detroit
