Description:

Assists University lawyers and staff by conducting legal research, preparing legal documents, and performing other legal tasks and assignments. May also meet with clients or assist lawyers in court and trial related research.
  • Performs complex legal research and analyzes legal questions.
  • Interprets and applies legal procedural and evidentiary rules.
  • Applies oral and written communication techniques.
  • Examines and analyzes existing evidence, facts or data against legal precedents.
  • Researches and analyzes law sources to prepare draft memoranda, briefs or arguments for review, approval and use by attorneys.
  • Plans, develops, and implements compliance policies and procedures for administering large or complex departments, programs, or processes.
  • Assists in formulating, evaluating, and implementing University policies to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Reviews requests for public information received by UH System and its universities, assesses which items should be responded to and which are objectionable, and respond accordingly to the requestors.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

The Law Clerk positions will support the University of Houston Law Center in different areas of the Law. Working on projects assigned by the supervisor in the area you will be working in.

The term of the position is one year.
  • J.D. degree required.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, and the ability to follow through on details while operating within the priorities set by leadership.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Education will be considered in lieu of experience.

MQ: Requires singular knowledge of a specialized advanced professional discipline or the highest level of general business knowledge, normally acquired through attainment of a directly job¿related terminal degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a three-year law degree from an accredited law school.

Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience. Will accept education in lieu of experience.
