The Role:
The strong preference is for this role to be resident in our San Diego office, but we will consider qualified applicants across all of our California offices.
  • Familiarity with estate planning for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients with complex family structures and complex assets; including, gift, estate, and generation-skipping tax planning.
  • Experience drafting, editing, and reviewing revocable estate plans, irrevocable trusts, wealth transfer documents, and other tax and planning documents. Experience in complex trust administration, including preparation of estate tax returns.
  • Comfort in tax analysis and research.
  • Exposure to cross-jurisdictional and international planning, California income tax planning, and QSBS (qualified small business stock) planning are a plus, but not required.
  • Exposure to philanthropic planning, charitable structuring, and exempt organizational advice are a plus, but not required.
  • The role will also involve contributing to the team's profile and undertaking business development activities to establish, develop, and maintain long-term relationships; including, writing articles/posts, attending events/conferences and building networks with private wealth contacts/intermediaries including global and peer firms and counsel.

Key Skills and Experience
  • Strong academic credentials (J.D. required; Tax LL.M. is a plus);
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years of relevant experience practicing in a law firm's trust and estate, tax, or corporate group;
  • California Bar membership required;
  • Strong drafting, writing, research and communication skills
  • Compensation commensurate with experience ranging from $195,000 - $250,000
