About the Intellectual Property – Patent Prosecution Section
Our patent practice offers comprehensive strategic counseling in patent law and practice that enables our clients to clarify goals, find solutions, and achieve results throughout the innovation lifecycle. Our patent attorneys and agents advise clients on obtaining and enforcing patent protection, licensing or acquiring patent rights, executing financing and other business transactions, and navigating the patent landscape in their various industries.

Responsibilities:
A General Practice, Full Service Law Firm is seeking a technical advisor or patent agent with a Ph.D. in the biological sciences to join our Boston headquarters. This person will perform a variety of patent-related activities, primarily in the areas of patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate analysis and due diligence. This person will work with clients on innovative and cutting-edge biotechnology to procure patent protection and build IP portfolios.

Manage patent portfolios and coordinate prosecution with foreign associates in various jurisdictions
  • Draft office action responses and prosecute patent applications
  • Work with scientists and inventors to draft patent applications
  • Assess scientific literature, patents and patent application documents in various biology fields
  • Conduct patent-landscape and freedom-to-operate searches and assist with analysis
  • Work with investors to conduct IP diligence for potential investments
  • Assist with IP diligence on biotech initial public offerings and other capital markets transactions

Collaboration with team members is an important component of any role at A General Practice, Full Service Law Firm. Therefore, the firm encourages working from the office approximately 60% of the time in accordance with the firm's published guidelines.

Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. degree in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related fields
  • Patent prosecution experience preferred
  • Experience drafting patent applications de novo from invention disclosure forms and/or inventor interviews
  • Ability to present scientific concepts, analysis, reasoning and conclusions to scientists and non-scientists
  • Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities, stay organized and exercise attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively in team setting
