Job description
We’re looking for a focused and energetic attorney to join our intellectual property team as a patent counsel. From eBay’s inception over two decades ago, we have seriously committed to investing in and protecting our intellectual property. We’re now recruiting another member to become a custodian of our constantly evolving patent portfolio.
While varying from time-to-time, this role will, on average, entail a roughly 50-50 split between heads-down and heads-up work. For this position, teamwork is crucial. We work closely as a team where everyone pitches in to accomplish tasks. By joining, you will be intimately involved in overseeing a strategic patenting process at every stage of the idea lifecycle to ensure strong and well-defined outcomes.

Responsibilities
- Manage outside patent counsel with a particular technology portfolio
- Advise and train internal engineering and product clients
- Run Intellectual Property Steering Committees (i.e., to assess idea disclosures)
- Conduct invention harvesting sessions
Qualifications
- At least 2-4 years prior law firm and/or in-house experience
- Admission (in good standing) to the USPTO Bar
- Admission (in good standing) to at least one state bar
- Computer science, physics or other equivalent technical background
This position is based in Salt Lake City. Less than 10% travel.
