Description:
Experience: 1 to 2 years in patent prosecution law, with a master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemistry.Note: Recent law school graduates with prior work experience as a patent agent will also be considered.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with organic chemistry, bioorganic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, peptide chemistry, peptidomimetics, small molecule synthesis, self-assembling systems, hydrogels, pharmaceuticals (including small molecules, biologics, and delivery methods), and chemical processes.
- Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications relating to small-molecule chemistry, pharmaceuticals and drug formulations, polymers, materials and chemical compositions, and chemical processes and manufacturing methods.
- Prepare responses to USPTO Office Actions and examiner interviews.
- Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and validity analysis.
- Analyze complex scientific data and translate it into clear, precise legal and technical advice and documentation.
- Support IP due diligence, licensing and portfolio management activities.
- Perform research and stay current on patent law developments and emerging technologies in chemistry.
- Communicate effectively with investors, in-house counsel, and foreign associates.
- Participate in client meetings and contribute to business development efforts, as appropriate.
Requirements:
- Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field.
- Registration to practice before the USPTO.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Strong academic credentials.
- Excellent technical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other practice areas to provide comprehensive solutions to clients.
Salary: $125,000 to $128,500
A competitive compensation and comprehensive benefit package, including medical, dental, vision, life, long term disability, flexible spending, 401(k), Paid Time Off, pension plan, and more. At this time, the good faith estimate of the annual salary range for this position, if the successful applicant is based in Buffalo, Albany, Saratoga Springs, or Rochester is $125,000 to $128,500. This range is not applicable to other locations.
