Overview of Position:This full-time position is a great opportunity for an experienced Patent Agent to join a growing intellectual property law firm. Patent Agents work with our attorneys to develop patents that protect our clients' innovations. Candidates with a technical background in chemical engineering, chemistry, or other experience related to semiconductors are encouraged to apply.
We will consider qualified candidates who prefer to work on a fully remote basis within the U.S., though preference will be given to candidates who are willing to work in-person in our firm's Portland, OR office location.
Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys in understanding technical aspects of an invention
- Perform searching to evaluate the novelty of an invention
- Assist attorneys to draft patent applications, including a textual description and drawings illustrating the invention
- Assist attorneys in responding to examination reports from patent offices around the world
- Successfully manage a workload of multiple projects
- Work toward meeting an annual target of 1600 billable hours
Qualifications & Skills:
- Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is required
- A minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience working as a Patent Agent is required
- Qualified candidates must have an undergraduate engineering or science degree (industry experience and advanced degrees are appreciated, but not required)
- Chemical engineering, chemistry, or other experience related to semiconductors is strongly preferred
- Must be detail-oriented and possess superior organization skills
- Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high quality work
- Must demonstrate excellent writing skills and verbal communication skills in English
- Must be eligible to work on United States export-controlled matters, as this position includes some work on such matters
