The Legal Division Represents the Public Interest by Advocating for Commission Staff in Contested Cases Before the State Office of Administrative Hearings (soah) and The Public Utility Commission of Texas (puct). the Division Provides Legal Analysis, Case Strategy, and Litigation Support in Matters Involving Electric, Telecommunications, and Water and Sewer Utilities. in Addition, the Legal Division Offers Legal and Policy Guidance to Agency Staff and The Commissioners, Supports Rulemaking and Regulatory Initiatives, and Helps Ensure the Commission's Actions Are Legally Sound and Consistent with State and Federal Law.

Jump Start Your Legal Career with Hands-On Experience in Administrative Law and Utility Regulation, Working Alongside Experienced Attorneys and Contested Cases that Shape Public Policy Across Texas.

The Legal Division Is Seeking a Part-Time Law Clerk to Support Attorneys in Complex Regulatory and Administrative Proceedings Involving Electric, Telecommunications, and Water and Sewer Utilities. the Law Clerk Supports Attorneys by Conducting Legal Research and Analysis and Drafting Legal Memoranda, Briefs, and Other Written Materials Related to Administrative and Regulatory Matters. This Position Also Assists with Reviewing Filings and Records, Analyzing Legal Documents, Monitoring Developments in Utility Law, and Supporting Attorneys in Contested Cases and Administrative Proceedings. This Role Offers Hands-On Exposure to Litigation Support, Regulatory Practice, and Public Service While Contributing to The Commission's Mission and Decision-Making Process.

Qualifications:
The Ideal Candidate Should Possess the Following Minimum Qualifications.
Current Enrollment as A Third Year (3 L) Law School Student at An Accredited Law School.

Additional Employment Information
This Is a Part-Time Law Clerk Position Limited to Third Year (3 L) Law Students, with Hours Ranging from 10 - 20 Hours per Week. Continued Employment After Graduation Is Not Guaranteed and Will Be Determined by The Division Director Based on Division Needs and Employee Interest.

Preferred Qualifications:
Internship Experience Relating to Electric, Telecommunications, or Water and Sewer Utilities or With a Regulatory State Agency.

Additional Compensation Information
This Position Is Posted at An Hourly Rate of $23.08, Based on The Full-Time Equivalent Salary. upon Hire, Compensation Will Be Established as A Monthly Prorated Salary Based on The Number of Hours Worked per Week, as Agreed upon With the Selected Candidate.

The Selected Candidate Will Have the Option to Select a 10-, 15-, or 20-Hour per Week Schedule, Based on Their School Schedule at The Time of Offer Acceptance.

Monthly Salary Breakdown:
10 – Hour Work Week: $1,000.00/month
15 – Hour Work Week: $1,500.00/month
20 – Hour Work Week: $2,000.00/month

Work Schedule:
The Puct Operates on A Standard Work Schedule of Monday Through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Employees May Request an Alternative Work Schedule in Accordance with The Puct's Alternative Work Schedule Policy. Approval of Such Requests, Including Any Form of Telecommuting, Is at Management's Discretion and Based on The Business Needs of The Agency and The Requirements of The Position.

New Hires Become Eligible to Telecommute with Supervisor Approval After Completing 30 to 90 Days of Employment. Supervisors May Require New Hires to Report to The Office More Frequently if Necessary to Support Training, Performance, or Business Needs.

Veteran's Preference
