Job Responsibilities:The South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (Academy), General Counsel Unit is currently seeking a Part-Time Attorney/Instructor to perform the following job functions.
- Sits as a hearing officer for law enforcement contested case hearings
- Write hearing officer recommendation to submit to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Training Council (LETC) for review
- Draft the final agency decision based on the LETC decision
- Draft hearing notices to schedule case hearings
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
- Juris doctorate degree from an accredited law school and
- Active member of the SC Bar

- Ability to interpret and apply laws and judicial decisions
- Familiar with the dynamics of the judicial process
- Personality and experience to work effectively in the classroom
- Knowledge of SC criminal and civil laws as they relate to law enforcement
- Knowledge of federal and state constitutional rulings
- Knowledge of court rules of procedure
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Exercise good judgement and discretion
- Ability to establish professional relationships
- Ability to work some holidays, as needed
