We are accepting applications for a part-time Assistant Prosecuting Attorney position. The starting salary for this position will be commensurate with experience. This part-time, hourly position does not provide benefits. This position works approximately 16-20 hours per week.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA accredited law school and an active license in good standing with the Missouri Bar
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years of criminal litigation experience, including first chair trial work
- Experience managing a high volume caseload
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment
- Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- Familiarity with PBK or other case management software

Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
- Callaway County seeks an experienced, team oriented assistant prosecutor to manage the Countys traffic and DWI caseload and provide additional courtroom coverage when staffing needs arise. The successful candidate will independently review, file, negotiate, and try traffic related offenses, including DWIs, while collaborating closely with law enforcement and fellow prosecutors. The position is ideally suited for a candidate with previous criminal litigation experience who wants to pursue justice and maintain and sharpen trial skills in a collegial, fast-paced prosecutors office.
Key Responsibilities:
Traffic Caseload Management
- Review traffic and DWI citations and incident reports; determine appropriate charges or amendments
- Provide clear charging decisions to law enforcement partners and victims
- Ensure timely discovery compliance and witness preparation
- Draft and file charges, motions, and other pleadings
- Negotiate plea agreements and sentencing recommendations consistent with office policy
Courtroom Representation
- Conduct weekly traffic/DWI docket from arraignment through disposition
- Litigate bench and jury trials for traffic, DWI, and other assigned cases
Team Support & Coverage
- Serve as back up counsel on other criminal dockets and cases when colleagues are unavailable
- Contribute to office trainings and policy development
