Description:

About The Colwell Law Group
For more than 20 years, The Colwell Law Group, LLC has helped families across Upstate New York navigate complex divorce and family law matters with strategy, compassion, and strength. We are a nationally recognized, locally trusted firm known for excellence in matrimonial and family law — handling everything from high-asset divorces and business-owner separations to complex custody, relocation, enforcement, and appellate matters.

We are seeking an accomplished Non-Equity Partner to join our leadership team and play a pivotal role in mentoring attorneys, leading litigation strategy, and supporting the continued expansion of CLG's reputation for excellence.

The Opportunity:
As a Partner, you will serve as a senior leader within the firm, responsible for overseeing case strategy, supervising attorney performance, and ensuring exceptional client outcomes. You'll collaborate closely with the Managing Partner and firm leadership to shape policies, strengthen client relationships, and contribute to business-development initiatives that support sustained growth.

This position is ideal for a seasoned family or matrimonial law litigator with a strong courtroom presence, proven leadership skills, and a desire to influence both case outcomes and firm direction.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and oversee complex, high-asset and high-conflict family law cases from inception through resolution.
  • Supervise and mentor Senior Attorneys, Associates, and Law Clerks to ensure excellence in advocacy, documentation, and client communication.
  • Participate in case strategy, settlement conferences, and trial preparation with firm leadership.
  • Represent clients in Supreme and Family Court hearings, trials, appeals, and mediations throughout New York.
  • Partner with the Managing Partner to identify growth opportunities, refine internal processes, and enhance client experience.
  • Collaborate with the Client Consultation Managers (CCMs) and Intake team to maintain alignment between new-client onboarding and case execution.
  • Support firm visibility through speaking engagements, professional networking, and community involvement.
  • Model and reinforce CLG's core values — Give-a-Sh**, Integrity, Grit, Village, and Excellence — across all teams and client interactions.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice in New York State or eligible for reciprocity/admission under the Office of Court Administration (OCA).
  • 5–10 years of litigation experience, with significant family and matrimonial law experience required.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex and high-stakes cases independently.
  • Proven ability to lead, train, and inspire attorneys and legal teams.
  • Strong business acumen with an understanding of firm profitability, billing practices, and client retention.
  • Excellent courtroom, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Desire to contribute strategically to firm growth and long-term leadership initiatives.

What we offer:
  • Competitive base salary with significant quarterly bonus potential tied to KPis
  • No capital buy-in or equity requirement
  • Flexible structure with autonomy and support
  • A team culture focused on results, relationships, and continuous improvement
  • Full operational support including intake, CRM, legal admin, and marketing
  • Opportunities for advancement and leadership influence
