Kean Miller is seeking an experienced Oil & Gas Title Opinion Attorney to work in our Shreveport office. This role is open to attorneys seeking a path to partnership or experienced lateral attorneys interested in a reduced-hours role.
Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in oil and gas, mineral title, energy transactions, property law, or related regulatory matters. Experience with Louisiana mineral law is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Assist clients across Louisiana with upstream oil and gas matters, including mineral title examination, leasehold title opinions, and due diligence.
- Support large-scale mineral acquisition projects, mineral leasing, surface use agreements, and complex upstream transactional work.
- Draft and negotiate farm-out/farm-in agreements, joint operating agreements, purchase and sale agreements, servitudes, conveyances, and other energy-related contracts.
- Conduct legal research, prepare title opinions, and assist with curative work and transactional documentation.
- Support CCUS projects, including carbon sequestration servitudes, lease agreements, and related regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with clients, landmen, in-house counsel, and regulatory agencies to advance operations and transactions.
- Represent clients before Louisiana administrative and regulatory bodies, including the Office of Conservation, Department of Natural Resources, and State Mineral and Energy Board.
Requirements:
- 3 years of experience drafting oil and gas title opinions in Louisiana preferred
- Strong understanding of Louisiana mineral law preferred
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical skills and ability to problem solve
