As a valued contributor to our Single Family Legal Credit Loss Management team (“CLM”), you will work with team members and management to provide legal counsel and services to the business to minimize credit loss and legal risk, and to support the business in achieving its objectives. You will provide legal advice and support to Single Family business units on legal risk for default-related matters and REO (real estate owned), including managing litigation and alternative dispute resolution matters and oversee outside counsel as needed. You will also support the CLM team in efforts to enhance operational effectiveness and minimize operational risk.

The Mortgage Default Litigation and REO Attorney role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:
- Manage litigation matters involving Single Family mortgage loans to favorable outcomes for Fannie Mae, including foreclosure actions, bankruptcy proceedings, borrower suits, quiet title actions, evictions, and related REO litigation.
- Oversee and manage outside counsel in an efficient and cost-effective manner and ensure effective legal representation.
- Prepare legal documents as needed related to litigation and transactional matters.
- Negotiate litigation-related agreements and services contracts where needed in conjunction with business stakeholders.
- Prepare and present legal guidance, memos and training.
- Provide counsel and advice to Single Family business units as needed to support business objectives and strategies.
The experience you bring to the team:
Minimum Required Experiences
- 8 years related legal experience in corporate or law firm in the financial services industry.
- Juris Doctorate degree.
- Prior experience managing litigation.
- Strong drafting, analytical and oral advocacy skills.
- Comfort managing heavy caseloads and working with cross-functional teams.
- Practical, highly responsive and organized approach to providing legal services and advice.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, produce timely legal advice, and work with non-legal business partners.
- Proactive, strategic problem solver.
- Familiarity with legal issues relating to REO or real property ownership generally.
- Law firm experience working with mortgage servicers or in-house legal experience at a financial services firm, GSE, or mortgage investor.
- Familiarity with Fannie Mae Selling and Servicing Guides.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing processes and implementing technology-driven improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Proven ability to identify operational gaps, recommend solutions, and deploy tools or systems that streamline workflows, enhance compliance, and support organizational objectives.

The hiring range for this role is set forth below. Final salaries will generally vary within that range based on factors that include but are not limited to, skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and other relevant qualifications.
