Pillsbury's prominent Private Client & Family Office practice group is seeking to hire a mid-level Associate to join its New York office. This position offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated domestic and international planning matters for ultra-high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and closely held businesses, with a particular focus on complex trust structures and income tax planning.

We are open to candidates with either significant trusts & estates, private client, or tax experience who are interested in developing holistic expertise to service family offices. Candidates must be hardworking and dedicated to learning and growing in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, analytical, and time management skills, superior judgment, proficiency in Excel, and ease in working with numbers are musts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advise ultra-high-net-worth individuals, multigenerational families, and family offices on sophisticated estate, gift, and income tax planning matters.
  • Draft and implement complex estate planning structures, including:
  • Irrevocable grantor and non-grantor trusts
  • Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts (ILITs)
  • Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts (GRATs)
  • Charitable trusts (CRTs/CLTs)
  • Structure and advise on tax-efficient wealth transfer strategies, including lifetime gifting, succession planning, and family governance structures.
  • Provide counsel on individual and fiduciary income tax matters, including planning for closely held businesses and investment structures.
  • Work closely with family offices, fiduciaries, accountants, and investment advisors on integrated planning solutions.
  • Serve, where appropriate, in a role analogous to “outside general counsel” for family offices, helping to identify legal needs, coordinate advice, and manage matters across multiple disciplines.
  • Collaborate with and help coordinate attorneys across tax, corporate, real estate, litigation, and other practice areas to deliver seamless, holistic advice tailored to client objectives.
  • Support trust and estate administration, including advising on fiduciary duties and tax reporting considerations.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Candidate is required to have a bachelor's degree and a Juris Doctorate degree (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school with excellent academic credentials. Must be barred in New York. Previous or current employment with an Am Law 100 firm is preferred.

New York Pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on skillset and experience, is $310,000 - $390,000.
