Arnold & Porter is seeking a mid-level associate to join our nationally recognized Intellectual Property & Technology practice in New York. The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of experience handling sophisticated trademark, copyright, unfair competition, and brand enforcement matters, including litigation and counseling work for prominent domestic and international clients.Our prominent trademark practice covers all aspects of trademark and design protection, unfair competition, infringement, and related brand enforcement issues. We have extensive experience handling anti-counterfeiting and grey market matters, as well as litigating trademark, false advertising, and unfair competition disputes in federal courts and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). Our lawyers routinely obtain early injunctive relief, manage targeted discovery efficiently, and achieve favorable outcomes through summary judgment and negotiated resolutions.
We partner with leaders and innovators across a wide range of industries—including technology, entertainment, luxury goods, apparel, consumer products, and pharmaceuticals—to address all aspects of brand protection and enforcement worldwide.
Our team includes highly experienced litigators who have won precedent-setting appellate decisions in areas including trademark protection, fair use, secondary liability, and rights of publicity. We also maintain deep experience with USPTO procedures and global portfolio management, allowing us to provide strategic trademark selection, clearance, prosecution, enforcement, and international coordination services.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing and supporting trademark, copyright, false advertising, and unfair competition litigation matters in federal court and before the TTAB;
- Conducting legal research, drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery materials;
- Advising clients on trademark clearance, prosecution, portfolio management, and enforcement strategies;
- Handling disputes involving counterfeiting, infringement, and unauthorized distribution;
- Collaborating closely with partners and clients on complex domestic and international brand protection matters.
Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of relevant trademark and copyright experience at a law firm or comparable environment;
- Strong litigation and counseling experience involving trademarks, copyrights, unfair competition, and related IP matters;
- Experience with TTAB proceedings, the US Copyright Office, and USPTO practice preferred;
- Excellent writing, analytical, and advocacy skills;
- Strong academic credentials;
- Admission to the New York Bar or eligibility to waive in.
