Hughes Socol Piers Resnick & Dym, Ltd. (HSPRD), a Chicago-based law firm with a national practice, is seeking an Associate Attorney with at least two years of medical malpractice litigation experience to join our Medical Malpractice Defense Group.

Our Medical Malpractice Defense Group is an established trial practice representing hospitals, physicians, healthcare professionals, and other medical providers in complex professional liability and medical malpractice matters. This position offers an opportunity for an Associate to take an active role in all phases of litigation while working alongside experienced trial attorneys.

Responsibilities include:

Taking and defending fact and expert witness depositions;
Managing written discovery and conducting legal and factual research;
Drafting pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery motions, and other substantive filings;
Appearing in court and representing clients at hearings and other proceedings;
Working directly with clients, experts, and other professionals throughout the litigation process;
Participating in all aspects of trial preparation; and
Assisting with and participating in trials, with opportunities to develop meaningful courtroom and trial experience.
Some travel is required.

Ideal candidates will have:

A minimum of two years of medical malpractice litigation experience;
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills;
Excellent written and oral advocacy skills;
Experience taking and defending depositions;
The ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and persuasively with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and the courts;
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage multiple matters and competing deadlines;
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a litigation team;
A demonstrated interest in medical malpractice defense and trial practices; and
An interest in professional development, client relationships, and contributing to the continued growth of the practice.
Second-chair trial experience is preferred. The firm also values judicial clerkships, fellowships, and other significant professional experience relevant to our practice areas and clients. Trial and litigation experience involving personal injury, products liability, or other complex civil matters will also be considered.
