Position Summary:
As a Managing Senior Counsel, Aetna Privacy you will act as the Business Privacy Officer for Aetna and provide strategic legal counsel to internal business partners with respect to Federal and state healthcare and consumer privacy regulations and laws applicable to health plans, third party administrators and related activities. You will proactively advise business partners on a wide variety of matters and work collaboratively with other attorneys and partners on matters related to privacy legal and regulatory compliance.

You will identify business and legal risks and provide solutions which balance legal issues and business objectives. You will be expected to develop a keen understanding of the business and operational goals of assigned internal clients and work diligently to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities may include advising on privacy issues related to handling member information associated with our health plan operations and activities, appropriate use of member information related to our provision of care management services, obligations related to payor interoperability and transparency, product development, contracting, and/or other health plan operations activities. You will recommend practical and sound advice to internal clients on legal issues related to business objectives and take an active role in driving projects to final result.

As part of the Legal team, you will gain experience working with a dynamic in-house legal department and play a key role in supporting the business. This role will include managing other colleagues on the health care business privacy team.

Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 7 years of legal experience focused on health care privacy law, preferably involving health plan, in a sophisticated or complex environment.
  • Experience leading a team and/or various legal projects.
  • Deep subject matter expertise of privacy laws such as HIPAA and GLBA.
  • Ability to synthesize and apply multiple regulatory frameworks to business activities.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and strong legal project management and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, provide leadership, influence organization behavior and create alignment across disparate groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Admitted to practice law in good standing in at least one state.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations including one or more of the following:
    • State insurance and healthcare law
    • Affordable Care Act, Medicare and Medicaid
  • Experience as in-house counsel.
  • Experience supporting health plan operations or businesses providing regulated services
  • Experience with aspects of healthcare related to provision of health plan services.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex services agreements.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and work as a team player.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, initiative, and drive
  • Preference will be given to qualified candidates in the Hartford area. All qualified candidates will be considered.

Education:
  • Bachelor Degree
  • Juris Doctor

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$175,100.00 - $334,750.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
