Description:

About the role:
Baker Law Group is seeking an accomplished Texas civil litigator and proven leader to serve as Managing Partner for our expanding Texas practice. This role is for an attorney who wants to do more than inherit a caseload: the Managing Partner will help build an office, develop a team, and shape the firm's long-term presence in Texas.

The right candidate will combine sound legal judgment, hands-on management, and an entrepreneurial approach to growth. This person will supervise attorneys, maintain an active civil litigation caseload, and work closely with firm leadership to turn an ambitious expansion plan into a durable, high-performing Texas operation.

Baker Law Group brings established marketing and intake systems to support that growth. The Managing Partner will provide the local leadership, legal credibility, and team development needed to capitalize on those resources while maintaining exceptional client service and work product.

What You'll Lead
  • Build the Austin office. Help establish the firm's operational and professional presence, with Austin as the firm's Texas hub.
  • Lead and develop attorneys. Manage, mentor, and hold lawyers accountable for excellent legal work, sound judgment, responsiveness, and client care.
  • Shape the team. Partner with firm leadership on hiring, onboarding, staffing, workflow, and the development of a strong Austin legal team.
  • Set the standard. Establish clear expectations for case strategy, communication, deadlines, quality, and ownership across the practice.
  • Guide expansion. Help identify opportunities, priorities, and resources as the firm grows its Texas caseload and capabilities.
  • Collaborate across the firm. Work closely with firm leadership, operations, marketing, intake, attorneys, and support staff to align growth with strong execution.
  • Represent Baker Law Group. Build credibility and relationships within the Austin legal and business communities and serve as a visible leader for the practice.

What You'll Handle
  • Maintain an active caseload focused primarily on Texas civil litigation.
  • Manage matters from initial assessment and pre-litigation strategy through discovery, motion practice, negotiation, mediation, trial preparation, and resolution.
  • Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery, briefs, correspondence, settlement materials, and other legal documents.
  • Appear in hearings, conferences, mediations, trials, and other proceedings as appropriate.
  • Advise clients clearly on strategy, risk, cost, timing, and practical next steps.
  • Provide strategic oversight on matters handled by other attorneys and step in when a case requires senior-level judgment or support.
  • Maintain strong systems for deadlines, case progress, staffing, and client communication.

What We're Looking For:
The ideal candidate is a respected Texas attorney with deep civil litigation experience, meaningful leadership ability, and the ambition to build something substantial.
  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
  • 8+ years of legal experience practicing in Texas, with substantial civil litigation experience.
  • Strong command of Texas courts, rules, procedures, and local legal practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, mentor, or develop other attorneys and legal professionals.
  • Experience independently managing complex matters and making sound strategic decisions.
  • Excellent legal writing, research, analysis, negotiation, and courtroom skills.
  • A practical, business-minded approach to client service, case management, and growth.
  • High standards, personal accountability, and the ability to create accountability in others.
  • Strong communication skills and the judgment to work effectively with clients, colleagues, and firm leadership.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and genuine enthusiasm for building a team, an office, and a lasting Texas practice.

Preferred Background
  • Established professional experience and relationships in Austin or the broader Texas legal community.
  • Prior law firm leadership, practice-group management, or office-building experience.
  • Experience recruiting, onboarding, supervising, and developing attorneys or legal teams.
  • A civil litigation background that may include business, commercial, contract, real estate, or other complex disputes.
  • Experience contributing to practice growth, referral development, or strategic business initiatives.

Compensation and Profit Sharing
This role offers on target earnings of up to $300-350k, depending on experience, qualifications, and fit, including a profit-sharing opportunity. The compensation structure is designed to recognize both the seniority of the role and the Managing Partner's contribution to the growth and performance of the Texas practice.
