Description:
Managing Immigration Attorney — Former Law Firm Owners Encouraged to Apply$140,000–$160,000 per yearFull-Time | Hybrid: 3 Days In-Office / 2 Days Remote | Warrenville, Illinois
Love immigration law, but tired of running the business?
Maybe you opened your own immigration practice because you wanted to help people, build something meaningful, and have more control over your career.
Then came everything else.
Payroll. Hiring. Firing. Marketing. Technology. Vendors. Bookkeeping. Staffing issues. Client complaints. Administrative problems. Constant decision-making.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that, you still had to actually practice law.
If you still enjoy immigration law, legal strategy, mentoring, and helping clients — but are ready to step away from the day-to-day burden of owning and operating a law firm — this may be the right next chapter for you.
The Law Office of RSB Ltd. is seeking an experienced Managing Immigration Attorney to lead our legal department at our Warrenville, Illinois office.
Former solo practitioners and immigration law firm owners who are ready to step away from the administrative burden of ownership are strongly encouraged to apply.
You bring the legal experience and leadership.
We handle the business.
What You'll Do:
This is a true leadership role. You will not simply carry a caseload and work independently. You will help lead the legal department, develop our attorneys and paralegals, maintain quality standards, and ensure the department is performing at a high level.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting immigration consultations and providing legal analysis and case strategy
- Reviewing complex cases and legal frameworks
- Reviewing attorney and paralegal work product for quality and accuracy
- Mentoring and developing attorneys and paralegals
- Supervising and managing the legal department
- Establishing accountability through deadlines, metrics, KPIs, and performance expectations
- Monitoring department productivity, quality, and case progression
- Identifying legal, staffing, or workflow problems before they become larger issues
- Improving legal processes, systems, and internal procedures
- Working closely with firm leadership to improve department performance
- Helping create and maintain training standards for attorneys and paralegals
- Providing guidance on complex family-based and humanitarian immigration matters
We are a boutique immigration law firm focused primarily on family-based and humanitarian immigration matters, including:
- Adjustment of Status
- Consular Processing
- I-601A and other waivers
- U Visas
- VAWA
- Family petitions
- Motions and related immigration matters
This allows our attorneys to focus deeply on the areas of immigration law we handle every day.
Our Hybrid Work Environment
This is a full-time hybrid position based in Warrenville, Illinois, with a minimum of three days per week in the office and up to two days working remotely.
We strongly believe there is value in working together in person. Collaboration, mentorship, training, problem-solving, and accountability are simply different when a legal team regularly works face-to-face.
Just as importantly, many of our clients want to sit across the table from their attorney when discussing important and deeply personal immigration matters. The Managing Attorney will therefore conduct in-person consultations and maintain a meaningful presence in our Warrenville office.
At the same time, we recognize that experienced attorneys do not need to be physically present five days a week to perform at a high level. This position offers the flexibility to work remotely up to two days per week, while maintaining the in-person leadership and client accessibility our firm values.
Who We're Looking for:
The ideal candidate has significant immigration-law experience and understands what it takes to run a legal practice.
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Have at least 5 years of substantive immigration-law experience
- Have previously owned, operated, or meaningfully managed an immigration law practice
- Have experience supervising attorneys and/or paralegals
- Are comfortable holding team members accountable
- Understand how to manage a department through measurable expectations, KPIs, deadlines, and quality-control standards
- Have strong legal judgment and case-strategy skills
- Have significant experience with family-based and/or humanitarian immigration law
- Enjoy mentoring and developing other legal professionals
- Are bilingual in English and Spanish
- Are willing and able to work a hybrid schedule with at least three days per week in our Warrenville office, including conducting in-person client consultations
- Want to continue practicing immigration law without carrying the full administrative responsibility of law firm ownership
What This Role Is Not
This is not a position for someone looking to practice independently with minimal oversight or involvement with the rest of the firm.
We are looking for someone who wants to lead, mentor, manage, improve systems, and take ownership of the legal department's performance.
At the same time, this position allows you to leave behind many of the burdens that come with owning a law firm — including marketing, payroll, bookkeeping, vendor management, and day-to-day business administration.
Compensation:
$140,000–$160,000 per year, depending on experience.
Benefits include the firm's existing benefits package.
A Different Kind of Next Step
Leaving law firm ownership does not mean leaving immigration law.
For some attorneys, the next stage of their career is not another firm of their own.
It is the opportunity to use everything they have learned — as a lawyer, business owner, manager, and leader — without having to carry every responsibility themselves.
If that sounds like where you are in your career, we would like to hear from you.
