Description:
Job Overview:As our firm continues to grow, we are seeking a Managing Attorney to lead our legal team and set the standard of excellence across every department. This attorney will hold the firm's highest legal position — providing legal strategy guidance across our immigration practice, supervising and mentoring attorneys and staff, and partnering with firm leadership on recruitment, training, and performance across the firm. The ideal candidate is a seasoned immigration attorney and natural leader who communicates directly, gives specific and constructive feedback, and is comfortable being both a strategic resource for the team and a trusted point of contact for clients navigating complex cases.
This role does not require in-office presence. For candidates who choose to relocate to Tulsa, OK or Oklahoma City, OK, a relocation bonus is available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal strategy guidance to attorneys across the firm's immigration practice areas, including complex or high-stakes cases, and review case strategy to intervene when correction or additional guidance is needed.
- Serve as a senior resource attorneys can escalate to for legal questions across case types, and step in to handle cases directly during attorney absences, overflow, or particularly complex matters.
- Supervise, mentor, and train attorneys and staff; develop training programs and mentorship assignments; lead recruitment and hiring of attorneys across all departments.
- Conduct attorney performance reviews and track performance measures, collaborating with managers and department leaders.
- Provide specific, documented feedback to attorneys and staff — identifying correct approach, training needed, as well as issues from process, training, or software/systems limitations.
- Build and maintain trust-based relationships with clients on complex or sensitive matters; step in directly with clients when needed, including addressing concerns or dissatisfaction with clear, disciplined communication about strategy and risk.
- Identify recurring issues or trends across the firm's caseload (e.g., denials, drafting or evidentiary weaknesses) and help translate them into practice-wide improvements and training.
- Hold regular, consistently scheduled meetings with attorneys and department leads to share case- and judge-specific knowledge across the firm, and collaborate directly and proactively with other department leaders on cross-team issues.
- Oversee attorneys in satellite offices and remote roles, and act as a back-up to any legal department lead attorney when needed.
- Look for gaps in legal processes and firm operations to identify opportunities for improvement, and stay current on changes in immigration law and policy, advising the broader attorney team accordingly.
- Participate in executive meetings and prepare quarterly and annual reports on legal department analytics; report to the Chief Executive Officer and collaborate with the Chief Operations Officer.
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law, in good standing, in a U.S. jurisdiction.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in immigration law; experience across both humanitarian and family-based, affirmative, or removal defense matters preferred.
- Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, or training attorneys in a law firm environment.
- Strong client-facing skills, with a track record of building lasting client trust, including in high-stakes or sensitive conversations.
- Demonstrated ability to give direct, specific, and constructive feedback.
- Comfortable collaborating cross-departmentally with non-legal department leaders.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines in a high-volume environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- In-office presence is not required for this role. A relocation bonus is available to candidates who choose to relocate to Tulsa, OK or Oklahoma City, OK.
- While not required, speaking Spanish is a bonus.
