Position Description: We are seeking a Managing Attorney to oversee The Pro Bono Project's new Northshore (Covington) office and the provision of legal services in St. Tammany and Washington Parishes. We are seeking an experienced attorney, with preferably 7+ years of practice experience, who is comfortable handling family law matters while performing supervisory duties and conducting outreach to community partners, clients, and volunteers.Duties and Responsibilities:
The Managing Attorney's primary responsibilities include:
- collaborating with the Executive Director on objectives and goals to assist the evolving needs of our client population
- supervising and collaborating with the Northshore Legal Assistant on substantive intake and case management issues, outreach events, and general administrative functions
- initiating and fostering mutually beneficial relationships with relevant social service organizations to promote our mission and services and develop an understanding of alternate resources for clients
- developing substantive presentations and materials for community outreach and volunteer recruitment
- recruitment, training, and support of pro bono volunteers on the Northshore, including technical legal support and mentoring services for our volunteers
- cultivating, developing, and maintaining relationships with Northshore law firms, attorneys, and paralegals
- preparation and/or review of case referrals to volunteer attorneys
- maintaining accurate volunteer information in the client database, updating case information for cases assigned to volunteers, and tracking status of all Northshore cases in case management software
- maintaining appropriate documentation related to given caseload and grants, using case management systems and statistical grant reports
- train and supervise volunteer paralegals, interns, externs, and law students, as needed.

We are seeking a positive and energetic candidate who is a strong and effective communicator. The ideal candidate will be empathetic, highly organized/detail-oriented, and committed to promoting access to justice. The nature of our caseload and the management duties involved in this position require a candidate who is flexible with their schedule. Regular travel throughout St. Tammany and Washington Parishes will be required.
Other required qualifications include:
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
- Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Louisiana
- A minimum of 7 years of law practice experience
- A willingness to learn and develop knowledge in areas of civil law where there is a lack of practice experience
- Family law experience is strongly preferred given our core services, but candidates with experience in other areas of law are still encouraged to apply
- Excellent oral, written and organizational skills
- Computer proficiency (Word, Acrobat, Excel, etc.)
- Must have valid unexpired Louisiana driver's license and own vehicle to travel to events, clinics, meetings off site as needed
Additional Desired Qualifications:
- Fluency in Spanish
- Prior experience working with an under-served client population, either having previously worked at a public interest organization or having worked on pro bono matters as private counsel
- Prior experience supervising staff
