Description:
Position Summary:The Managing Attorney oversees all legal operations of the firm, supervises attorneys and support staff, ensures high-quality client representation, and maintains strict compliance with Alabama Bar rules. This role provides legal leadership, trial support, team management, and operational oversight while working closely with the Owner/Principal Attorney to support firm growth, efficiency, and client satisfaction.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Legal Oversight & Case Management
- Manage the firm's overall caseload to ensure deadlines, filings, and client obligations are completed accurately and timely.
- Review, approve, and guide legal strategy, motions, pleadings, and major case decisions.
- Provide hands-on support and take lead on complex, high-priority, or sensitive cases when required.
- Ensure all attorneys maintain effective communication and professional standards with clients and the courts.
- Supervise associate attorneys, paralegals, interns, and legal assistants.
- Conduct performance evaluations, coaching sessions, and corrective actions as needed.
- Monitor workload distribution, attorney schedules, leave requests, and CLE compliance.
- Support attorney development through training, mentorship, and trial-prep assistance.
- Oversee communication standards and ensure client inquiries are responded to timely and professionally.
- Address escalated client concerns that require senior legal judgment.
- Uphold the firm's reputation through consistent, ethical, and client-centered representation.
- Assist with implementing, updating, and enforcing firm processes, workflows, and legal procedures.
- Review monthly performance indicators including caseload status, attorney performance, and case outcomes.
- Collaborate with firm leadership on staffing needs, workflow improvements, and firm expansion decisions.
- Ensure compliance with all Alabama Rules of Professional Conduct, especially supervisory obligations under Rules 5.1 and 5.3.
- Oversee conflict checks, trust-account procedures, client communication compliance, and malpractice-risk prevention.
- Maintain quality control for legal filings, trial preparation, and document accuracy.
- Represent clients in hearings, trials, mediations, and negotiations when needed.
- Provide litigation support and trial strategy guidance to attorneys.
- Serve as a senior courtroom presence for the firm.
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active Alabama State Bar license in good standing
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant litigation or criminal defense experience
- Prior supervisory or senior-level legal experience
- Strong writing, advocacy, leadership, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage a high-volume, fast-paced caseload environment
- High ethical standards and commitment to professionalism
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Managing Attorney, Senior Associate, or Lead Trial Attorney
- Experience training, mentoring, or supervising legal teams
- Strong operational awareness and ability to improve firm processes
- Comfort with case management systems and workflow oversight
Compensation & Benefits:
