Description:

McQuillan & Hohman Law, LLC. / Alaska Immigration Law Center
We're a tight-knit law firm that serves Alaska. We're looking for a hands-on Managing Attorney who can lead people, run an efficient office, and practice law with judgment and heart. If you like clear expectations, well-run systems, and coaching a small team to deliver great client service, we'd like to talk. We are a fun and dynamic work environment and it will be unlike any other law firm you have worked with.

The Role:
This position combines legal leadership with practical operations. You'll manage attorneys and staff, oversee calendars and case flow, and ensure the office runs smoothly day to day. You'll also maintain an active caseload aligned with your background (any practice area welcome; probate or immigration experience is a plus).

What You'll Do:
  • Lead day‑to‑day operations across our two branded practices; set standards for client intake, file management, calendaring, and communication.
  • Supervise and mentor attorneys and support staff; set priorities, delegate, and provide timely feedback and coaching.
  • Own basic office administration with the Office Manager: workflows, policies, vendor coordination, equipment uptime, and records compliance.
  • Oversee billing hygiene and light bookkeeping with support: trust accounting review, invoicing cadence, A/R follow‑up, and monthly reconciliations in QuickBooks Online.
  • Drive matter management and timelines; ensure hearings, filings, and service requirements are met, and risks are surfaced early.
  • Track simple KPIs (intake volume, response times, WIP/AR, aging) and use them to guide improvements.
  • Handle a direct caseload suited to your skills; appear in court or before agencies as needed.
  • Partner with the owners on hiring, onboarding, training, and performance reviews.
  • Model client‑first service, plain‑English communication, and accountability throughout the firm.

What You'll Bring
  • Juris Doctor and active bar license in any U.S. state, plus eligibility to be admitted in Alaska within 6 months of start; active Alaska license preferred.
  • 2+ years of post‑licensure practice experience (any practice area). Probate or immigration experience is helpful but not required.
  • People leadership and office management experience. If you lack formal office‑manager experience but have strong management in retail or customer‑service environments, we're open to it.
  • Solid clerical/administrative fundamentals: phones, calendaring, drafting, file systems, and client service.
  • Basic bookkeeping familiarity and comfort with QuickBooks Online (or similar) and monthly reconciliation concepts is a plus.
  • Fluency with Microsoft 365/Google Workspace, shared calendars, scanners/e‑fax, and practice‑management software.
  • Sound judgment, discretion with confidential information, and steady follow‑through.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish and English is highly preferred and will result in a pay bump.

Professional Responsibility
We expect full compliance with the Alaska Rules of Professional Conduct (and your licensing state), including conflicts checks, client confidentiality, trust‑account handling, supervision of non‑lawyer staff, truthful communications, and diligent, competent representation. Prior experience with trust accounting review and docket/case‑flow oversight is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits:
  • Salary: $95,000–$150,000 per year DOE.
  • Retirement: dollar‑for‑dollar match up to the federal limit.
  • PTO: aggressive paid‑time‑off policy.
  • Bonuses: frequent performance bonuses tied to results and team leadership.
  • Support: modern equipment, CLE budget, and training resources to help you succeed.
  • Business development: if you bring a book of business, we recognize it with clear financial incentives.

Schedule & Work Location
  • Full‑time, Monday–Friday; occasional after‑hours needs tied to court or client deadlines.
  • On‑site in Anchorage, AK (in‑person leadership and client service are essential to this role).
