Position Summary:
Seeking a motivated and detail-oriented attorney to join our Legal team. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact contracts and play a key role in ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations in a dynamic, fast-paced biotech environment.

The Manager, Legal Counsel will primarily focus on contract drafting, negotiation, and management, as well as compliance. The ideal candidate is a team-oriented professional with experience supporting legal functions in the biotech or life sciences industry, looking to grow their career in-house.

Responsibilities:
  • Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including:
    • Clinical Trial Agreements (CTAs)
    • Master Services Agreements (MSAs)
    • Licensing Agreements
    • Research and Laboratory Agreements
    • Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs)
    • Statements of Work (SOWs), Quotes, and Proposals
  • Provide practical legal advice to internal stakeholders on contract interpretation, risk allocation, and compliance.
  • Support and oversee GDPR compliance efforts, including data processing agreements, cross-border data transfer mechanisms, and privacy impact assessments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Clinical, Regulatory, R&D, IT, and HR) to ensure contracts and compliance align with business needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Help develop and improve contract templates, playbooks, and processes to drive efficiency and consistency.
  • Monitor evolving data privacy regulations and assess their impact on the company's operations.

Qualifications:
  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school; licensed to practice in at least one U.S. state, preferably NJ.
  • 3–5 years of relevant legal experience, with at least some in-house experience at a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences company strongly preferred.
  • Solid background in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a broad range of contracts.
  • Familiarity with GDPR and other data protection/privacy laws; experience advising on compliance programs preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance legal risk with practical business considerations.

Compensation:
The expected salary range for this position is $150,000 to $179,000.

For U.S.-based candidates, this is an at-will position, and Rocket reserves the right to adjust the range at hire or during the year due to market shifts.
