Description:Shumaker is seeking a junior trial partner with a minimum of eight years of experience to join its nationally recognized Litigation practice in our Tampa office. This is an outstanding opportunity for a skilled attorney seeking a to grow a trial practice while working alongside experienced litigators handling complex, high-stakes matters across a variety of industries. Portable business is not required.
We are looking for a lawyer who thrives in the courtroom and has substantial first-chair or second-chair trial experience. The ideal candidate will be a strategic advocate who understands working cases from pretrial preparation through verdict.
Candidates with a background in complex litigation matters, including experience managing cases through discovery, motion practice, depositions, trial, and appeal, are encouraged to apply. We welcome attorneys who can leverage this experience while providing practical, results-oriented counsel across a broad range of litigation matters.
Where You'll Work
This position is located in the Tampa, FL, office.
What You'll Do:
The successful candidate will:
- Develop and implement trial strategy in complex litigation.
- Lead and manage all aspects of trial preparation.
- Prepare and argue motions in state and federal courts.
- Draft, analyze, and defend objections to exhibit lists and witness disclosures.
- Develop comprehensive witness outlines and examination strategies for fact and expert witnesses.
- Draft and negotiate jury instructions, verdict forms, and pretrial stipulations.
- Create and manage proof matrices that align evidence with claims, defenses, and trial themes.
- Coordinate trial teams, including associates, paralegals, experts, and litigation support professionals.
- Mentor and develop junior attorneys while contributing to the growth of the Tampa litigation practice.
- Participate in business development initiatives and client relationship management.
What We're Looking For:
- Admission to the Florida Bar, active and in good standing
- Minimum 8 years of litigation experience, with at least two evidentiary hearings and/or trials to verdict.
- Demonstrated experience serving as first chair or key trial team member in complex litigation matters.
- Exceptional negotiation and advocacy skills, with a strategic approach to litigation and dispute resolution.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to understand client needs and offer practical solutions.

Physical Requirements:
- Sitting frequently, approximately six out of eight hours per day. Sitting position static for up to one-half hour at a time.
- Standing or walking frequently, up to six hours per day.
- Lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to one hour per day.
- Bending and stooping occasionally, up to one-half hour per day.
