Description:
What You'll Be Doing:Verizon seeks an energetic, creative, business-oriented attorney to join the Legal organization. The successful candidate will handle a diverse litigation docket, focusing on cybersecurity, privacy, and consumer fraud (including unauthorized Subscriber Identity Module (“SIM”) Swap and port-out matters). A large part of this role involves handling SIM Swap and unauthorized port-out arbitrations in-house, without the use of outside counsel, driving a strategic initiative to reduce outside counsel spend.
The role will also involve managing commercial disputes involving Verizon business customers (VBG) and vendors. In this role, you will manage risk, drive strategic cost reductions, and partner closely with cross-functional business partners—including the Information Security Office (“ISO”), product teams, and business units—to proactively mitigate exposure and refine operational practices.
The Litigation Counsel will handle substantial responsibilities, including:
- Managing a high-volume docket of SIM swap arbitrations in-house, including handling Motions to Compel and taking matters through off-ramps or to a final hearing.
- Conducting post-mortems on concluded cases to identify systemic vulnerabilities, providing feedback loops to the business, and advising on process changes to prevent future disputes.
- Working closely with the Information Security Office to identify weaknesses in security protocols (e.g., adaptive authentication notices) and pursue operational fixes.
- Tracking litigation trends and metrics to assist the business with caseload forecasting and the annual budgeting process.
- Pursuing affirmative claims and working with relevant personnel to enforce vendor indemnification and reimbursement provisions related to SIM swap matters.
- Deploying and leveraging AI tools and e-discovery platforms to create baseline work products, conduct research, and reduce document review costs.
- Evaluating settlement ranges and driving the cost-effective resolution of disputes.
- Advising on and managing disputes, claims, and litigation involving cybersecurity incidents, unauthorized account access, data privacy, and emerging digital security risks across customer and enterprise platforms.
- Partnering closely with the Information Security Officer and Privacy teams to evaluate systemic vulnerabilities, track regulatory and litigation trends in privacy and security, and recommend operational fixes to protect consumer and corporate data.
- Handling pre-litigation claims arising from the Verizon Business Group (VBG) ecosystem, balancing legal risk with broader strategic business relationships.
- Managing outside counsel on VBG disputes, including Small-Medium-Business (“SMB”) and Enterprise customers.
- Enforcing vendor contracts, indemnification, and reimbursement provisions across cybersecurity, privacy, and operational matters to recover value and manage third-party exposure.
- Managing disputes with third-party vendors, suppliers, and service providers stemming from service level breaches, data incidents, or alleged contractual non-performance.
What we're looking for….
You'll Need to Have:
- JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.
- Prior litigation experience.
- Bar membership and required licenses.
Even Better if You Have One or More of the Following:
- Significant experience managing arbitrations, including drafting MTCs and taking cases to trial or hearing.
- Prior experience managing SIM swap, unauthorized port-out, or data breach/privacy litigation.
- Experience managing litigation or pre-dispute resolution involving enterprise business customers (e.g., B2B or VBG contexts) and complex commercial contracts.
- Broad knowledge of cybersecurity law, data privacy regulations, unauthorized account access claims, and digital fraud risk mitigation.
- Familiarity with leveraging AI and continuous learning tools within e-discovery workflows to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
- Proven track record of partnering with cross-functional business teams to implement process improvements and mitigate litigation risk.
- Experience analyzing case data to evaluate early settlement vs. motion to dismiss value and generate risk-adjusted cost projections.
- Highly developed analytical reasoning skills, keen attention to detail, and a proactive approach to recovering value through vendor indemnification.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage and appropriately prioritize multiple projects and a heavy caseload.
- Sound judgement, with the ability to appropriately balance legal and business risks while maintaining a customer-centric mindset.
If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every "even better" qualification listed above.
