The Opportunity:We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Counsel — Litigation & Disputes to lead and manage complex litigation and dispute resolution matters across the company's global operations. The ideal candidate will have 5 years of legal experience with commercial and/or construction disputes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent the company in managing litigation, arbitration, mediation, and other dispute resolution matters, both domestically and internationally.
- Serve as the key legal advisor on construction-related disputes, including claims for delay, liquidated damage issues, disruption, defective work, change orders, contractual notice issues, erosion prevention, and cost overruns.
- Oversee and manage outside counsel in complex litigation and arbitration matters to ensure alignment with business objectives and cost efficiency.
- Work closely with project management, commercial, and risk teams to proactively identify and mitigate legal risks on projects.
- Support pre-dispute strategy and negotiations, including drafting of settlement agreements, waivers, and dispute resolution clauses.
- Participate in internal investigations and respond to regulatory or governmental inquiries as needed.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and deliver training on legal and risk issues related to construction projects.
- Monitor developments in relevant laws and regulations and communicate impacts to the business.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (or equivalent international qualification).
- 5 years of relevant legal experience, with a strong focus on commercial and/or construction litigation and disputes, and top tier our specialized construction law firm training.
- Experience with major arbitration forums (e.g., ICC, LCIA, AAA/ICDR) and dispute boards is highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of contract law and dispute resolution practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal matters and work effectively with senior executives, project teams, and external counsel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Law degree required
- Licensed to practice law in at least 1 jurisdiction
