Position Summary:Zarzaur & Schwartz, P.C. is hiring a remote Litigation Attorney licensed in Louisiana to manage all aspects of debt collection litigation in Louisiana courts. In this full-time remote position, you will handle court appearances, draft and sign pleadings, supervise the Louisiana clerk, and ensure compliance with Louisiana state and court-specific requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for a Louisiana-barred attorney with 3–5 years of civil litigation or collections law experience to join a well-established, multi-state litigation firm that offers remote flexibility and a collaborative team environment.
Responsibilities:
Louisiana Clerk Oversight & Compliance
- Oversees and directs the work of the Louisiana clerk, ensuring accurate and timely processing of court filings, case documentation, and administrative tasks.
- Reviews clerk work product for accuracy and completeness, providing guidance and correction as needed.
- Coordinates with the Louisiana clerk to manage court deadlines, docket entries, and case file organization.
- Ensures the Louisiana clerk adheres to Louisiana state and court-specific filing requirements and firm procedures.
- Reports and coordinates regularly with the VP of Litigation on Louisiana caseload, compliance matters, and procedural updates.
- Ensures compliance with Louisiana state and court-specific legal processes, rules, and requirements.
- Keeps abreast of current legal requirements federally and within the State of Louisiana.
- Represents clients in Louisiana courts for trials, hearings, and mediation/arbitration proceedings as assigned and as licensed by the Louisiana State Bar.
- Manages all Louisiana cases set for court appearance, including preparation, scheduling, and follow-up.
- Communicates with opposing attorneys and defendants regarding case status, negotiations, and resolution strategies.
- Communicates with court officials, opposing attorneys, and defendants regarding case status and proceedings.
- Reviews, signs, and approves all firm legal pleadings in Louisiana, including lawsuits, default judgments, consent judgments, motions, post-judgment motions, satisfactions of judgment, and garnishments.
- Drafts pleadings, letters, and legal documents necessary to advance the Louisiana litigation process, including discovery requests and responses.
- Responds timely and appropriately to incoming correspondence from opposing attorneys and Louisiana court officials or judges.
- Reviews new placements to approve initial outgoing demand letters for client and legal compliance requirements as assigned.
- Reviews firm inventory for suit readiness in Louisiana and initiates suit proceedings as assigned.
- Responds to all questions, issues, and status checks throughout the Louisiana litigation process, escalating as necessary and resolving all issues.
General Responsibilities:
- Provide backup coverage and support for team members, assisting with all daily functions as needed.
- Participate in firm-wide events, court relationship initiatives, and other activities as needed.
- Maintain a positive, professional attitude and uphold the firm's core values at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the VP of Legal or Director of Operations.
Requirements:
Education & Licensure
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year accredited college or university — required.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school — required.
- Active Louisiana State Bar licensure — required.
Experience:
- 3–5 years of collections, recoveries, or related legal experience — required.
- 3–5 years of experience in civil litigation or a related practice area — required.
- Experience in a business, banking, insurance, and/or legal environment — preferred.
- Master's degree — a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong legal skills, professional courtroom demeanor, and public appearance with appropriate conduct.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-task, high-volume environment.
- Ability to work as a team with litigation staff, clerks, and other attorneys.
- Working knowledge of Louisiana-specific court rules, procedures, and compliance requirements.
General Requirements:
- Valid Driver's License — required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (primarily Excel and Word) — required.
- Experience with electronic court filing systems, including Louisiana eFiling — required.
- Specialized law firm or case management software — preferred.
- Able to pass a background check and pre-employment screening.
- Must complete an assessment test and pass continuing education evaluations.
