Merani Kamara Zeleznock Law Group is seeking an experienced attorney to join and grow into a leadership role with our Creditors' Rights & Enforcement Litigation practice. This is not simply a file-handling associate position. We are looking for an attorney who can assume meaningful responsibility for a substantial volume practice, manage matters independently, develop efficient litigation and enforcement strategies, supervise supporting personnel, and grow into a leadership role within the firm.For the right attorney, this position offers a defined opportunity for advancement into practice leadership and partnership. Compensation depends on experience and is estimated to be $135,000 - $175,000 with performance bonus eligibility. This is an onsite role and candidates must be in the NYC/NJ area.
Responsibilities:
The attorney will handle and oversee matters involving:
- High-volume toll and commercial collection litigation
- New York and New Jersey creditors' rights litigation
- Judgment recovery and post-judgment enforcement
- Bank restraints, levies, executions and garnishments
- Asset investigation and discovery
- Information subpoenas and post-judgment discovery
- Judgment domestication and enforcement
- Settlement negotiations and payment arrangements
- Bankruptcy matters affecting collection and enforcement proceedings
- Proofs of claim, automatic stay issues and creditor remedies
- Motion practice and contested proceedings
- Court appearances in New York and New Jersey
- Development of strategies to improve recoveries and reduce aging
- Supervision and training of paralegals, collection personnel and support staff
- Direct communication with institutional and commercial clients
Requirements:
- Admission to the New York Bar. NJ bar admission in addition is a strong plus.
- Approximately 5+ years of relevant litigation experience
- Significant experience with collections, creditors' rights, debtor, and judgment enforcement
- Working knowledge of New York CPLR Article 52 and post-judgment remedies
- Familiarity with New Jersey judgment enforcement procedures
- Bankruptcy/creditor experience strongly preferred
- Experience managing a significant volume of active matters
- Strong drafting, motion practice and courtroom skills
- Ability to supervise staff and develop efficient workflows
- Strong organizational skills and comfort working in a technology-driven environment
- A practical, results-oriented approach to litigation and recovery
- Ability to pass applicable background and reference checks
- Willingness to be onsite 5 days a week or in court as needed for client service
