Description:

A Real Estate Litigation Law Firm has grown quickly. We will continue to grow.

We need our third attorney. We only practice one area of law, and we like to think we do it very well. Our firm represents people in Southern California who have suffered serious harm in their homes. We have recovered more than $30 million for our clients in the past five years, during which time we've grown from four people to ten. But we have only scratched the surface. Good cases are coming in faster than we can retain the clients. Fires. Lead poisoning. Serious personal injuries. Totally uninhabitable living conditions. We're looking for an attorney with 2-4 years of experience who wants to be part of our growth. If you have 2-4 years of experience in personal injury/premises liability–or you're on the defense side and you're ready to make the switch–this is the opportunity you've been waiting for. Everything we do is on contingency. No billing. No make-work to justify billing. There are currently 9 employees at the firm, including 2 other attorneys. We're looking forward to having you join the team. Compensation Summary: Here is what we're offering: Base salary of $120,000.00 + 3% commission on all assigned cases + additional commission TBD on all cases shared with another attorney + 10% of all collected attorneys fees awarded by any court You would be working on approximately forty unlimited civil cases, all in Southern California and all involving premises liability. Most cases are multi-party. We have an extensive intake team which screens all incoming cases, and we advertise everywhere, so all our matters are pretty strong as relates to liability and damages. The firm awards a 25% bonus of the net attorney fees on any cases the attorney brings in. No business development required.

Your Role:
  • Effectively manage a caseload of approximately forty cases.
  • Assist as needed on other matters
  • Draft pleadings, demands, and motions
  • Attend and conduct/defend/observe depositions
  • Attend mediations and settlement conferences
  • Communicate with clients concerning all of the above
  • DOE - Participate in trials. If you have trial experience, you will likely have the opportunity to try the cases in your caseload and/or assist in other Firm trials. Nearly all of our cases have statutory attorneys' fees. If you do not have trial experience then you can start as second chair and move up from there.

Your qualifications:
  • 2-4 or more years of experience in litigation focused on personal injury/premises liability. Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Maintain an active California bar membership in good standing.
  • Past experience in managing caseloads, resolving cases, and litigation generally.
  • Ability to write coherently and concisely (it is the Firm's belief that nobody reads long pleadings or demands)
  • Ability to strategize and make long-term plans for cases, especially in terms of gathering evidence and deploying it to maximum effect.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Have interests outside the law. Most good ideas, and pretty much anything about interpersonal relations, are not found in the published reports.
