Leech Tishman is seeking to hire a Litigation Associate with 4–6 years of experience in employment and commercial litigation to work in our Los Angeles (Westwood) office. The position requires significant client contact and the ability to excel when working independently. Superior client communication, writing, research, computer, and organizational skills are essential.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience representing employers in employment-related disputes, including single-plaintiff litigation, wage and hour matters, class and collective actions, employment counseling, and workplace investigations. Experience is required in drafting pleadings, conducting depositions, preparing and responding to written discovery, and handling complex motions practice in both state and federal courts.

Description:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assisting with employment and commercial litigation matters from inception through trial, arbitration, settlement, or other resolution
  • Handling single-plaintiff employment claims involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour issues, and other employment-related disputes
  • Assisting with and defending employers in wage and hour class actions and collective actions, including matters brought under California law and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
  • Preparing responsive pleadings, dispositive motions, motions for class certification, motions to compel arbitration, summary judgment motions, and other substantive motions
  • Propounding and responding to written discovery, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission
  • Conducting and defending depositions of plaintiffs, fact witnesses, corporate representatives, and experts
  • Attending and arguing court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and settlement conferences
  • Conducting legal research and preparing memoranda, briefs, and client advisories
  • Assisting employers with day-to-day employment counseling, including workplace policies, employee discipline, leaves of absence, wage and hour compliance, accommodations, and termination decisions
  • Conducting and assisting with workplace investigations involving allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, misconduct, and other employment-related issues
  • Collaborating directly with clients to develop litigation and risk-management strategies
  • Trial preparation, including witness preparation, exhibit management, drafting motions in limine, jury instructions, and trial briefs

Candidate Qualifications:
  • 4-6 years in civil and commercial litigation
  • Significant experience representing employers in employment litigation matters
  • Juris Doctorate degree
  • Must be licensed in California
  • Experience in both California state and federal court proceedings
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Word
  • Strong legal research and technical writing skills, including proficiency with legal research tools (WestLaw)
  • Strong academic and employment credentials
  • Excellent analytical, writing, research, negotiation, oral advocacy, and general communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and client-service interaction skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
  • Proven track record of performance and professional excellence
