Who We Are:
Leason Ellis is an intellectual property boutique based in White Plains, New York. We opened in 2008 with two patent attorneys and now leverage around 40 patent, trademark and copyright attorneys — deep enough to handle any IP dispute a client brings us, while small enough that everyone working on it fits around one table. World Trademark Review has stated that our “lean size belies the immense talent housed here, with all its lawyers boasting stellar credentials.” They are not wrong.

We are a short Metro-North ride from Grand Central, in the reverse-commute direction, in a market that keeps fueling firm growth year over year and enabling us to outpace comparable Manhattan boutiques and capitalize on market demand.

Who we are looking for:
IP Attorneys admitted and in good standing in New York (or admitted elsewhere and eligible for admission in NY) with at least five (5) years of IP litigation experience; substantially in federal court. Patent and/or trademark prosecution experience is a plus. A technical degree and USPTO registration is preferred for candidates primarily interested in patent litigation. Candidates with federal clerkship experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

What You'll Do:
  • Work directly with clients and with the partner(s) on the matter. There is no layer between you and either one. We expect you to work to protect both with equal interest and enthusiasm. The work you put in here shows; there's nowhere for good work to disappear at a firm this size.
  • Handle intellectual property disputes for firm clients ranging from multinational corporate giants to local start-ups. We expect you on your feet and in the mix from Day 1.
  • Take initial drafting responsibility for pleadings, dispositive and discovery motions, and pre-trial submissions in federal district court and before the TTAB and/or PTAB. Show interest in case strategy and planning as well as take ownership of your cases. The matters you take on here are yours; you will be given the license and resources to help shape every outcome.
  • Run discovery end to end — written discovery, ESI, review strategy, expert workup — on matters where you are the day-to-day associate.
  • Take and defend fact and expert depositions.
  • Argue discovery and substantive motions.
  • Travel occasionally for depositions, hearings, and/or trial.
  • Be motivated to help build the practice group, not just bill to it.
