About Us Helbraun Levey is the premier law firm in New York City for bars, restaurants, hotels, chefs, developers and all food and beverage outlets. We represent first time entrepreneurs, multi-unit operators, hotel F&B management groups, general managers, chefs, developers and all other industry folks. There are many law firms that dabble in the hospitality industry, but none of them have our experience or our commitment to New York City's hospitality professionals.
The firm is seeking a Litigation Associate with 2-4 years of commercial litigation experience to work with our clients in the hospitality industry.
As a member of the Litigation Group, you must be able to: (1) produce pleadings, motions, and other documents commensurate with experience in a timely fashion; (2) prepare for and represent clients at various court proceedings with minimal supervision; and (3) manage our clients' expectations and communicate effectively to counsel them on a variety of litigation/dispute resolution strategies and risk assessments.
Candidates must have experience handling all stages of litigation in both state and federal courts including discovery, depositions, motion practice, court appearances and trial preparation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Organize and conduct extensive discovery in complex commercial cases;
- Independently research and draft substantive motions and trial documents;
- Monitor and organize calendar for all cases and comply with all deadlines;
- Confer with opposing counsel on substantive and procedural issues;
- Appear in federal and state courts.
- Have hands-on broad litigation experience with specific experience in commercial litigation;
- Have a working knowledge of the NY CPLR and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to quickly learn, assess and provide creative solutions to complex issues;
- Strong project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple critical projects and deadlines;
- Strong business judgment and strategic thinking;
- Superior attention to detail and organizational skills;
- A team-player who is result-oriented and willing to provide guidance and mentorship to other professionals as needed.
Additional Qualifications:
- Admitted to practice law in New York State (with the ability to apply for admission to the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York).
- Law degree from an accredited institution.
- Passion for food and/or experience in the hospitality industry is a plus.
