Orrick is seeking candidates for a Licensing Attorney with 2-6 years of experience to join our market-leading Fintech and Financial Advisory (FFA) practice. The Licensing Attorney will focus on providing legal support for the practice group's high-volume nationwide licensing practice. This is an off-track role reporting to senior attorneys and partners in the practice group. Our licensing clients are primarily state and federally regulated financial services companies operating in the mortgage, debt, commercial, and/or consumer finance space.
The Licensing Attorney's work includes assisting clients with all stages of the licensing life cycle, from conducting comprehensive multistate legal reviews to analyze and identify potential licensing requirements to providing direct support throughout the license application process. The Licensing Attorney will assist in drafting and compiling state filings and will also aid clients with maintaining state and federal authorities once secured by identifying and advising on compliance obligations for regulated entities.
Other work may include regulatory, compliance, corporate, and transactional work within Orrick's FFA practice.
Qualifications:
- A Juris Doctor and membership to the State Bar of the desired office
- Two to six years of legal experience at a company, law firm, regulatory agency, or similar entity handling licensing matters
- Familiarity applying for and maintaining state licenses in the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS)
- Experience reviewing and analyzing state statutes and regulations
- General knowledge of federal consumer finance laws (TILA, RESPA, UDAP, etc.)
- The ability to produce thorough, efficient, and detail-oriented work product
- Excellent communication and interactive skills at all levels and a shown ability to work with a wide variety of personality types
- Planning and organization skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and to lead multiple projects concurrently
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
- Good writing skills
