Responsibilities:
This full-time, 12-Month Teaching Faculty position serves as a Writing Specialist and Professor of Advanced Legal Writing at Florida State University College of Law, teaching legal writing and other skills development courses, and serving as the law school's writing specialist, working to improve students' legal writing skills through individual and classroom instruction. This position also includes academic support responsibilities:
  • Meets with individual students to assist with writing assignments.
  • Assists students with issues such as organization, analysis, and legal style, as well as grammar, punctuation, usage, and citations.
  • Helps students revise writing samples, cover letters, upper-level writing, and research (ULWR) assignments, graded 1L writing assignments, and other writing projects.
  • Offers students practice with writing bar essays and exam essays.
  • Provides academic support for students, and guest lectures for Academic Fellows program.
  • Presents writing workshops throughout the academic year, such as:
    • Clear and Effective Legal Writing
    • How to Write a Fact Section
    • ULWR and Scholarly Articles
    • Language and Sentence Structure
    • How to Write a Bar Exam Essay
    • Journaling and Writing for Wellness

Qualifications:
A J.D. degree from an accredited law school and minimum of three years of experience teaching legal writing is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience developing and teaching advanced legal writing courses and providing writing support for graduates studying for a bar exam, is strongly preferred.
