About the role:
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Briefing Attorney (a/k/a Law & Motion) who enjoys digging into case details, researching complex issues, analyzing documents, and building strong arguments. This position is ideal for career writing attorneys or briefing attorneys who excel in drafting and preparing a variety of legal motions and briefs in a variety of cases, with a focus on asbestos litigation, as well as traditional personal injury cases and other toxic tort cases.
While this position is designated as remote, employees who live within reasonable commuting distance of one of our offices may occasionally be asked to attend in-person meetings or events at management's discretion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough legal research to support motion arguments and case strategies.
- Write and respond to a variety of motions and briefs—across multiple jurisdictions—including, oppositions to motions to dismiss, motions to compel discovery, affirmative and responsive motions for summary judgment, motions in limine, other pretrial, trial, and post-trial motions, and appeals.
- Assess the merits of legal arguments in briefs and filings, with an emphasis on talc.
- Analyze complex and voluminous case files, medical records, expert reports, and supporting documents; distill key facts in the context of applicable law.
- Collaborate with trial attorneys, case managers, and the litigation team to ensure legal arguments are consistent, accurate, and reflect current shifts in litigation.
You Have:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school;
- A law license from a US jurisdiction;
- Significant experience in toxic tort, asbestos litigation, and/or personl injury;
- Strong writing and legal research skills and familiarity with Westlaw and LexisNexis.
