Professional level internship providing legal work experience for first, second, or third-year law school students or recent law school graduates.

We are seeking 4 legal interns to start in late May or early June 2026. Our internships run for approximately 12 weeks.

Please note: We are looking to fill (3) three internship positions in Duluth and (1) in Virginia/Hibbing, MN.

The salary reflected above is current for 2025.

This position is part of the Civil Service Basic Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by Council 5 of AFSCME.

Distinguishing Features of Work
An employee in the Legal Intern class will work directly with a Division Head Attorney in all phases of the civil, criminal & public health and human services legal process by utilizing and applying standardized principals of law. Duties include answering defense motions, conducting legal research, and appearing in court with a supervising attorney. The work is performed under the direction of a Division Head.

Selection Process:
Minimum Qualifications (Pass/Fail):
  • Applicant must be a second, or third-year law school student, eligible to practice under the Minnesota Practice Rule.

All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will be forwarded to the appointing authority for consideration.

Please Note: applicants completing their first year of Law School by May of 2026 are also encouraged to apply.

Tentative Recruitment & Screening Process Schedule:
October 27, 2025 - Applicant screening will begin
Beginning of December 2025 - Interviews to be conducted
