The Job:
It is the primary responsibility of the Legal Counsel Labor and Employment to perform professional legal work related to assigned matters for MGM Resorts International and subsidiary organizations, specifically in the areas of employment law and traditional labor law. The Legal Counsel Labor and Employment, in collaboration with others on the team, will provide legal representation on labor and employment matters, including advice and counsel, administrative charges, litigation and arbitration matters. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and MGM Resorts International policies, practices, and procedures.

The Day-To-Day:
  • Provides labor and employment legal counsel to MGM Resorts International, its subsidiaries, and business units, including Corporate and property HR and Labor Relations teams.
  • Represents the company in administrative charges, complaints, claims (EEOC, DOL, OSHA), and federal, state, or local court proceedings.
  • Advises on interpretation, implementation, and administration of labor and employment policies, procedures, standard forms, plans, and collective bargaining agreements (CBAs).
  • Performs legal research, drafts memoranda and legal documents, and provides guidance on compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Manages outside counsel, monitors invoices, and coordinates with insurers. Represents the company in labor arbitrations, NLRB unfair labor practice charges, and collective bargaining as needed.
  • Develops and maintains strong business relationships, provides sound legal advice, exercises discretion and independent judgment, fosters a collaborative environment, demonstrates leadership, and supervises paralegals and support staff.

The ideal candidate:
  • The ideal candidate holds a Juris Doctor (JD) and has at least 2 years of experience in traditional labor law, including representation before the NLRB and other state and federal administrative agencies.
  • They are skilled in providing employment advice and counsel, supervising and coordinating outside counsel and advisors both nationally and internationally, and defending public corporations in labor and employment matters.
  • The candidate must be willing to travel domestically (typically no more than six times per year) and either reside in Las Vegas, Nevada, or be willing to relocate.
  • Additionally, they should have 6 or more years of progressively responsible legal practice in labor and employment law.
